Femina, The Fashion Magazine as Temptress, cover, 1928. "Un regard indiscrèt sur les modes de printemps, by George Barbier." *Barbier also drew for Gazette du Bon Ton.
Femina (Latin for woman) was a French women's magazine: the forerunner of "people" magazines and lifestyle and fashion guides for the affluent woman. Created in 1901 by Pierre Lafitte (folded in 1954), it targeted a female readership of the bourgeoisie, with coverage of leisure and sport activities, and some limited 'feminist" content. Current fashion was illustrated with photographs and hand-drawn illustrations, and articles on fitting garments, or on the correct way to remove gloves!
