The public domain consists of all creative work to which no exclusive intellectual property rights apply. Those rights have usually expired after a certain period, depending on the country (often after 70 to 100 years after publication).
We research and painstakingly digitally restore vintage, unknown, and uncommon illustrations, magazine and book covers, and original artwork from 19th- and early 20th-century literary and art magazines, and obscure European and North American digital archives.
Many of the artworks we find and restore are from the long-forgotten illustrations on internal pages of vintage magazines such as Jugend, so are lesser-known than the original cover images might be. You're getting a forgotten gem!
Now, to sum up: the images and products on this website are derivative works from digital images/photographs/archival records of original art works, illustrations, and magazines now in the public domain.
Our derivative works require considerable digital restoration skill (digital copies of the original works are edited, cleaned up, flaws removed, Photoshopped). They have had substantial remedial and corrective work to restore the digital original to a high-resolution copy that meets high-quality printing standards.
So, have a look at our uncommon and vintage art!
